Setting Up Auto-Recharge
Make sure your agent never goes offline because you ran out of credits.
Table of Contents
Your agent handles conversations around the clock. Auto-recharge makes sure it never has to stop - when your credit balance runs low, it tops up automatically and your agent keeps going without any interruption or manual action on your part.
You set a monthly spending cap so costs stay predictable. After that, you stop thinking about credits entirely - your agent stays live, your customers keep getting answers, and your balance manages itself.
In this article, you'll learn:
- What auto-recharge does
- How to enable it
- How to set a monthly spending cap
- When auto-recharge makes sense
What Auto-Recharge Does
When auto-recharge is enabled, Outlearn monitors your credit balance. When it drops below a set threshold, it automatically purchases a block of extra credits and adds them to your balance - keeping your agent online without any manual intervention.
Without auto-recharge, your agent stops responding to new conversations the moment your credits hit zero. For a live support agent, that's a problem. Auto-recharge eliminates that risk.
How to Enable Auto-Recharge
- Go to Profile → Billing, or click View Billing in the credits panel in the top navigation bar.
- On the Billing page, scroll to the Active Usage section.
- Find the Auto-recharge credits toggle and turn it on.
Auto-recharge is now active. Credits will be purchased automatically whenever your balance runs low.

Setting a Monthly Spending Cap
To prevent unexpected charges, you can set a cap on how much auto-recharge can spend in a single month. This gives you the protection of auto-recharge without the risk of an unlimited bill if your conversation volume spikes unexpectedly.
On the same Active Usage section:
- Find the Extra credit limit per month controls.
- Set the maximum number of extra credit units that can be purchased in a month.
- The page will show you the maximum extra charge for the month based on the limit you've set.

Once the monthly cap is reached, no more credits will be purchased automatically until the next billing period - even if your balance hits zero. If uninterrupted service is critical, set your cap high enough to cover realistic usage spikes.
When Auto-Recharge Makes Sense
Enable auto-recharge if:
- Your agent is customer-facing and going offline would affect your users
- You don't want to monitor credit usage manually
- Your conversation volume varies month to month and you want a safety net
Consider leaving it off if:
- You're still testing and want strict control over spending
- You're on the Free plan (extra credits aren't available on Free)
- You prefer to manually manage your credits and upgrade your plan when needed
Best Practices
- Always set a monthly spending cap when enabling auto-recharge - it protects you from unexpected charges if something unusual drives a spike in conversation volume.
- Set the cap high enough to cover a realistic busy period, not just your average usage. A cap that's too low defeats the purpose of auto-recharge.
- Review your extra credit purchases in the Billing History section monthly. If you're consistently buying extra credits, it's more cost-effective to upgrade your plan.
